Sean Linehan Walk
The Sean Linehan Walk is a nature walk following the meandering flow of the Macreddin River. There are a number of routes to choose from and the longest route is approximately 4 km. The start of the walk is located at the “Old Bridge” at Tinnakilly, just past the local national school on the Rathdrum Road. The walk was created by the national woodland service “Coillte” in 2004 as a recreational amenity for the area. It is dedicated to the memory of Sean Linehan, a former member of the Garda Siochana who was stationed in Aughrim for 26 years, and who was an inspirational member of the Aughrim Tidy Towns Committee. Originally from Knocknagree Co. Cork, he served as a dedicated member of An Garda Siochana in Aughrim for 26 years until he retired in 1993. Sean set out on a crusade in 1998 to persuade Coillte to construct the walk. His persistence eventually paid off, and in 2003 changes were made to Coillte’s policies which made it possible for the project to proceed. In 2005, the walk was opened to the public. Sadly Sean Linehan passed away in 2000 before he saw his dream become reality. Click here to download a map of the Sean Linehan Walk, courtesy of Wicklow County Tourism.

Pack a Picnic!!
Aughrim is in the fortunate position of having not one but two beautiful picnic areas, both of which are within easy walking distance of the village and are situated in picturesque riverside locations. The larger of the two is sited at the Tinakilly Bridge and is a convenient starting or finishing point for the Sean Linehan Walk. The second, at the Rednagh Bridge, is beyond the scenic Disabled Angling Facility and the Wicklow County GAA Grounds. Many of the local shops have a delicatessen counter and the cafes do take-away food, so that stocking up your picnic basket is an easy task.
Greenan Farm Museums & Maze
Greenan Farm Museums & Maze is situated in the midst of the Wicklow Mountains at the foot of the beautiful Glenmalure Valley, only 8 miles (5km) from Aughrim. Visitors will delight in a fun-filled day involving heritage, cultural education, nature and relaxation. It is a wonderful day out for all, from toddlers to senior citizens and from families to corporate tours.
This working hill farm includes a full-sized celtic hedge maze, the solstice maze, three museums including a traditional farmhouse museum, bottle museum and farm barn with horse drawn implements. The museums present exhibits dating back 100 years to traditional hill farming and the collection is already one of the largest in the country. The tranquil nature walk leads to a raised wooden walkway around the dragon-fly ponds and meanders by the farm animals including bronze turkeys, hens and chicks, rare breed hens, ducks, pigs, sheep and lambs, horses, two donkeys one of which is Ernie, a very cute bubbly baby donkey! The traditional Irish cottage tea-rooms supplies home-baked goodies and light lunches and the craft-shop sells local arts and crafts and environmentally friendly products. Open from May to September.
